I haven’t bought my first scooter yet, but I’ve been researching them for a while. This site has been very helpful, especially the reviews. I’ve been riding EVs for several years. I started with a vespa style scooter, then when the lead acid batteries died I switched to a pedelec city e-bicycle. I’m 57 years old, have spent my life cycling and walking long distances, but now my joints are paying the price. I can’t walk as far anymore, and I can’t pedal a bike either, even an ebike. So I’m looking for a new way to get from A to B.
First I need to figure out if I’d be able to ride an e-scooter at all, or if it would cause knee, back or hip pain. I realize I will have to try riding one to know better, however, sometimes it takes a while before pain sets in. A ten minute test ride may not be enough to know for sure. That’s why I want to ask experienced riders. I also have other “needs” for a scooter, as I live in an area with hills and poorly maintained streets. And, I’m a bit on the heavy side, weighing 200 lb.
I live in Toronto, where scooters are illegal. Yet there’s an Apollo store and a store that sells Kaabos near where I live. But, I live on the western border with Mississauga where escooters are legal. It’s literally a 10 minute walk to Mississauga. Since there are more cyclists than pedestrians on the sidewalks around here and the cops never enforce the law, I don’t anticipate any issues with cops. They never stopped me when I was riding my vespa scooter at 50 kph with the limiter disconnected and one of the fake pedals fallen off. 😁
