Don't understand why scooter is not the best by far

I have been comparing different scooters. I found the Fluid, Horizon seems to be the best by far. I keep thinking I’m missing something.

48V, 800W, top speed 25mph, 25 miles range (I know some people won’t get that but the tests show it will) for only $799. One person got 28 miles range.

Not only that, not only that, but it has DUAL REAR SUSPENSION!!!!!! I can hardly believe you can get all this for $799. Sure, I could spend$ 1,500 and get a better one, but this seems like a best deal by far.

To have that much power and range, with dual rear suspension is amazing!! Yet, it’s hardly mentioned in the comparisons in it’s class. Am I missing something?

I wish I had a reply for you but I was scanning for tech help with the same question you have. I’m 72 yo weigh 210 and have heart afib. I’m going to Oshkosh airventure in July and it is a huge outdoor show and i don’t think I can walk the distances involved. In addition, I used to ride bikes with 4 grandchildren under 10 yo and I can no longer keep up. I live in a rural area and don’t have commuting needs, but the Escooter might be an answer.

Come on tech help–give us some input.

EScooterman You aren’t missing anything – it is a fantastic scooter. It didn’t make it on our list of best electric scooters mostly because it didn’t receive as many ratings as other scooters and is in a very competitive price class. Doesn’t mean that it isn’t a fantastic scooter that I wouldn’t recommend, but when you are trying to distill down a small list that suites the widest varieties of use scenarios, even really excellent scooters can get left off.

I expect that it may reappear on the list was we adjust how we weigh certain categories like user-submitted ratings to account for sampling bias and the like.

Different people use e scooters different enviroments and situation. In the end aslong as you have use for it and like all that matters in the end. Dont believe theres a scooter alive that doesnt have its good and its bads.

The single drum brake on a solid wheel on the Horizon is the dealbreaker for me. In ESGs testing, it takes 23 ft for a Horizon to stop from 15 mph, a poor showing.

With any vehicle, braking distance is proportional to the square of the speed, as the brakes have to scrub off kinetic energy, proportional to the square of velocity. Double the speed, and the braking distance quadruples. If it takes 23 ft for a Horizon to stop from 15 mph, then we can expect it to require about 59 ft to stop from its top speed of 24 mph. Something like the Apollo City (15-to-0 mph in 12.2 ft) would be expected to stop in 31 ft from the same 24 mph speed. The difference between stopping in about two car lengths or about four.

I chose that comparator mostly because of its similar price point, as I’m still searching for my first e-scooter. But from my experience with motorcycles and bicycles, I really think braking power should take equal precedence with motive power. It certainly can have a greater impact on safety and whether one stays with the hobby.

Single wheel braking on the Horizon is a letdown in what would otherwise be a perfect scooter at this price point. For a while, eWheels was selling the Swift, a copycat model that had a front drum brake. However it was discontinued maybe a year ago.
