Mercane, good or bad?

Hi guys, I am very new here so please be patient if I’m breaching community etiquette but it’s a simple question.
I am a skateboarder and have been building electric skateboards for years now but alas my 15 year old is a sponsored push scooter rider and thinks skateboards are the devils work. He would like an electric ride to get him around and has set his sights on a mercane dual motor wide wheel. Having absolutely no idea what I’m talking about I have done the usual searches and have found nothing current review wise on the socials so the question is does anyone have any experience with said scooter or indeed the manufacturer?
Are they still in business? Is the quality good?
Actually that’s four questions now.
Sorry to crash into your community but Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Ps been reading for a bit and think I’m going to stick around. You seem like good people and you never know you may even coax me onto a scooter.

I have one, it’s my only scooter and here is what I can tell you from my experience. This machine should be advertised as a long distance commuter, on basically strait paths with little turns. And it works for me because I’m basically just taking it to work and back through the city. The plus’s, it is built pretty solidly and with the solid tires you never have to worry about puncturing. It does go 25 mph and it feels fast. High mounted light which isn’t always typical especially on a less expensive scooter. But I’ve had it for a year and I’m already looking for an upgrade, why? I learned a very important lesson about knowing my exact criteria when looking for a scooter. RIDE QUALITY! The WWP although it is advertised as having suspension, basically it has Zero suspension. It is exactly like riding a skateboard, and because the tires are solid they do nothing to protect the rims. so all four of my rims are damaged and not protected under warranty. The rims break right through the tires like a karate man breaking the bottom brick without harming the top one. And in my city there are cracks in the road everywhere. So now I take the same path everyday and have to have become aware of which streets have the least cracks and bumps. Your kid would chew this thing up. Plus he’s probably not going to like the effort it takes to turn. There’s no slaloming on this thing, just strait forward riding. It’s a commuter, not a toy.

There are handful of reviews on YT if you search for Mercane widewheel. Pretty sure they are still relevant and you can find these rides for sale on different outlets.

From what I’ve seen so far it is a cool ride and decently built, was actually on the edge of buying one but I ended up going with a more mainstream choice. It is a unique scooter which means not a lot of parts are shared with other brands / models, getting a part replacement could be an issue down the line.

From what I’ve heard the scooter is decent, and riders either absolutely love them… or can’t stand them at all 😆 . I personally would go with a more mainstream scooter, but if that’s the scooter he wants to buy, and he’s willing to pay for it, I wouldn’t stop him.

I’ve got to go ride one of these things. My last build cost me a twisted knee, a dislocated shoulder and a chipped elbow. No handle bars. The problem with esk8 is a remote connection. You guys have drive by wire. Much safer.
Let you know how I get on and in the meantime I’m reading your stuff.

(I am in Stockholm/Sweden and had a 2020 Mercane Widewheel Pro (WWP) for two years. Also decently experienced MC rider for 20+ years.)

If this is for your 15yo kid, there is an important/critical factor to consider depending on your location’s weather.
-> On a wet asphalt/tarmac, typical after rain, the WWP is a seriously dangerous scooter to ride due to its hard-compound ultra-wide flat tires.
It has zero grip.

Similar to driving a race car on slick tires under the rain.
