I have received my new Yume scooter this week. Was quite excited to get it. I was also surprised that it actually made it to me within the promised time through Alibaba.com. Ocean freighted to California, then up to me using Fed Ex.
I was a little worried initially that the marketing and website descriptions of the scooter would not live up to the delivered product. Plus there seemed to be little in the way of reviews of the scooter model on line. My first impressions of the scooter was that i received something better than I had expected. The scooter is huge, 122 pounds. The finish is quite clean and it arrived in a bit of a beaten up box, but without any bent or scratched parts. Since i now have a little experience with scooters assembly was quite easy for me, but it’s really straightforward anyway. There were no assembly instructions included. But you get a hard shell stem mount case “bag”, a toolkit, and an air pump + 2 chargers with fans built in.
There were some loose screws, strangely all on the left side of the scooter, I checked every screw (and this scooter has a lot of them), I think it’s a good idea people do this when they receive new scooters.
My first ride impression is it’s going to take some getting used to compared to the Mantis or the Phantom. It does not handle the same way at all. The extra weight and the wide off road tires make quick turn adjustments “harder”. I need to put some miles on this before I can really give a better opinion here. Looks wise, in about 20 km initial ride, I had people wanting me to stop, many asking questions and wanting photos of it on the park trail. The speed and the power are simply out of this world even in one wheel mode. The website say’s it’s a beast, they are absolutely right. The trigger throttle however works very well so you can gradually get up to that power with total control.
So everything was of course going too well that day, and at around the 25 KM mark, the rear motor lost most its power and made some strange noises, so my euphoria ended abruptly, and that scooter quality frustration I think we all experience kicked in. But somehow I expected it, and I will now have to see how the after sales support works for Yume. They have responded quickly and and I’m hoping to resolve the issue quickly. An unfortunate blip, I guess being used to Apollo’s resolution times I have become desensitized to the frustration of waiting for a solution. I guess this will make another post good or bad.
