Kaabo Mantis v2 or Apollo City 2022 pro

So taking a car to and from work is a bit expensive. Riding a bike takes a bit more time and its a bit boring (especially 5 in the morning 😑). So a scooter should be the perfect fit. But what to choose?! I need something that can handle rainy days (lots of rain) so that narrows the list down alot. And i have found one (two?!) that i like. The new apollo city looks really nice and got the perfect amount of speed to fit my needs. But I’m a bit anxious that its a bit weak with its 500w motors 🫤. Got about 2 long hills to work and 3 from work so a dual motor is a must. The pro got dual bit will it be enough?!? So i looked at the new Mantis. That one got power with a big P 😅, but not to much 😮‍💨. But I dont like its display and the throttle. And it doesnt look as nice as the Apollo 😋 (that one got premium looks). So whats ur advice? Which to choose? Or r there any new on the horizon that matches my demands?

What i want:
Premium looks
A minimum of 50km/h
Ip rating x5 or better
Turning signals
Front and rear suspension
Be able to handle hills
Thumb throttle is preferable
Be able to travel at least 15km on one charge

I own a Mantis 10 Pro and an Apollo Phantom. The reason I even own the Mantis is because of multiple let downs by Apollo having great sales success due to their state of the art marketing, but not being able to live up to delivery times and many little quality issues. This is documented here by me and others in other posts here in great detail. In fact i am currently waiting for an Apollo part at the moment and will have been troubleshooting a minor issue with them for over 2 months. They have nice people trying to help, but in the end if you can’t deliver service or have a part in stock…. you have no reliable ride. Ironically I’m a 6 hour drive from their head office and a half hour from their Sales only pop up store.

After close to 1700 kms on the Mantis, I can tell you I have had only two issues, A squeaky stem. and a flat i got last week going home from work. I have fixed that (my first flat) and I am back riding again.
The mantis accelerates faster, is more nimble, lighter to transport by about 10 pounds, and has been super reliable.

The phantom is heavier and has a better folding mechanism and suspension. and looks more futuristic. It’s not a bad scooter concept, it just needs many little improvements and upgrades from when i opened the box last year with it inside. Your city would be a lighter model, I think the 2 × 1000 W motors on the mantis will be a big plus for you as well. My real world driving on mixed settings on my mantis is definitely close to 40 miles To work and back home is a 50 km round trip for me. It easily does that, with power leftover for at least another 30 kms. I don’t get range anxiety on it.

I think either of those scooters will suit you but you will get better/more convenient customer service if you purchase the Mantis.

You may also consider the Wolf series, you will love the reliability and handling.

I know this is off-topic but I’m always puzzled by the positive reviews the Phantom gets, nice to see a realistic owner tell it like it is.

Well you have to pre order the city pro and most likely wait a really long time where as you can get the mantis now and wait about a week to get it

Not sure which Kaabo Mantis you’re considering but watch this video first.

That is an old video from 2020 and many of those issues have been resolved already in 2021. If offered a choice between Apollo quality and service support vs. Kaabo quality I would still lean towards a Kaabo purchase personally. If the person posting this is willing to look at other brands other than the the two options he asked about, and has a specific price range in mind - there are other scooters that may be better choices.

Here’s our review, which includes actual top speed (2-direction run with sustained top speed in each direction averaged together to eliminate the effect of headwind and tailwind, as they do in land speed record rules) a real world range test, and braking distance measurements. And the real weight. (the bathroom scale measurement in the above video is off by 2 pounds)

If you do plan to get the mantis get the mantis V2 from fluid or get the mantis pro SE from Voromotors. There are a few differences between the pro SE and V2 but it’s still a mantis .

Fulkaffe ooh the Segway P100s is nice my honest opinion get the Segway p100s ESG hasn’t review the scooter yet but it’s basically a down size GT got the same handlebars and dash comes with NFC reader 10 in tubeless self healing tires and has a app which is a bonus not as fast as the mantis or Apollo since it only goes 30 mph but plenty fast and it has up to 62 miles range

Honestly for me I would pick Segway over the mantis and Apollo you’re basically getting a mini GT worth the $2000 for me. I would’ve got it if I knew about it

Mantis is a no go for me. Just noticed it got tubes 😬. Riding with tubes where I live is not recommended ☹️💸

Honestly I will be biased because of my own personal good experience with the Mantis, and mixed experiences with my Apollo.
The Segway is still not finalized, and has no longer term test. However Segway does make quality products, These new scooters do have a high level of "cool’ factor as well. Searching for just the right scooter is hard, just as soon as you hit the buy button the next day some random video will pop up giving you buyers remorse. You just got to make a decision at some point and be happy with your choice.

I would like to test drive that new Mantis GT pro just for fun one day. But will it be a $2000.00 scooter or one quite a bit more from what i have seen it listed for on some dealer websites US$3250.00). The Emove cruiser seems to be a quality product at a good price point as well. It seems to be the one scooter that takes some rain exposure too in real world reviewing, which seems to be important in his wish list.

PaulN Thank you for your reply. I’ve been considering an electric scooter for commuting to work in a downtown area 2 miles from home with large hills. I need to be able to move quickly between work and home to care for pets and live in a place with four seasons. I have been looking at these two scooters as well and the negative reviews for Apollo have been concerning to the point of removing them from my list. I have gathered that the e-scooter market is still very young and there hasn’t been enough time to measure long term reliability and establish strong customer service reviews. These are transportation machines and parts do fail with use! I don’t mind the DIY aspect as I’ve worked as a mechanic on bicycles in the past and am handy. I do want to have a good idea of what I am signing up for and where to go when problems arise. The Kaabo Mantis V2 (24amp) is the way I’m leaning, it seems to be fairly reliable and there are service options nearby if something beyond small repairs comes up. I do also appreciate the plug and play components on this model for repairs sake. I have been an avid cyclist most of my life and also had push scooters and skateboards as a youth, would test driving first be recommended? Or, just take the leap!
