Anyhill UM-2 vs Taur

I am a beginner rider purchasing my first scooter. Appearance, stability, and safety are most important to me. I am torn between these 2 scooters. The Taur is expensive and may be overpriced in my opinion, but I like the facing forward foot decks. The only review I saw highlighted what the reviewer thought was a design flaw in the folding mechanism. He thought it should be higher. What do people think of 1) cost, 2) quality, 3) which is better (Anyhill UM-2 or Taur), and 4) alleged design flaw?

wheeljockey I would pick the anyhill or a scooter that has suspension. @DagwoodStreets is right about the foot position. I would go for a scooter with suspension there are quite a few scooter with suspension that are below $1000

The Taur is a cool concept but I would not recommend for a first time scooter buyer due to the foot positioning because your balance is more evenly distributed with one foot in front of the other. Side by side foot positioning on your first scooter will create a bad habit for when you ride standard scooters in the future.

I own a Fluid Freeride Horizon and it’s a great first scooter with suspension, great range, portability and reliability

I wouldn’t pick the Hiboy S2R go with the S2 or S2 Pro they have rear suspension and under deck lights but not the S2R the S2R has a removable battery that’s all and a terrible folding lock

The wait for the Taur may be a while. I’ve ridden one and it’s surprisingly normal-feeling to ride despite the foot platforms. Dagwood is right that doesn’t let you transfer your weight as much, and I noticed more front wheel spin and more rear brake lock-up because of it. That was a year ago on an early prototype though and it wasn’t running the production tires. I even (secretly) measured the braking distance, which wasn’t stellar, but also wasn’t out of line with things like the E-TWOW scooters.

We love our ANYHILL UM-2. Ramier uses it as the camera scooter because it’s so stable. I wanted to put that in the video, but we cut it. I’ve been trying to film him filming me, but that would require me riding one handed and the UM-2 is one of the only scooters I feel comfortable one-handing.

DrScootLittle Where’d you get to ride a Taur? MicroMobility? Or do you have one for review? I don’t think that even the kickstarter backers have them yet, as they’ve been a few months from production for nearly two years.
