Is regenerative braking bad for motor?

I read that leaving regenerative braking on high setting could harm the motor, BMS etc is that true?

I can’t see how unless you overheated the motor by going down a mountain sized hill using it. Its just magnets creating a reverse field and no contact friction is created. I just find too high a setting is just too much when you are accelerating fast and you have to hit the brakes hard unexpectedly. It’s quite a quick stop and if your not ready for it a little unnerving especially on a downslope.. I have set my levels down to level ⅖ so I get some regen braking but at a manageable level.

The only problem is that if you are fully charged and you go down a huge hill using the regen, it could potentially over charge your system but the BMS should be able to handle that within reason. I live on the top of a huge hill, (400 ft vertical) my chargers only charge to 83 volts, i never make it to 84v by the time I make it to the bottom. So, unless you live on the top of a mountain, I wouldn’t worry about it.
