I can’t give you a full review of the Dualtron City yet because I haven’t had the chance to ride it. And it looks like it’s going to rain with thunderstorms off and on this Saturday and Sunday. I did charge the battery and play around with the folding handlebars and stem. I couldn’t resist testing the light show, which has its own complex remote. I’m going to be lit up like a disco ball at night.
So far overall, this Dualtron City is a much higher quality and better designed product than the Apollo Ghost I had to send back. It feels sturdier, and the design of the folding handlebars and stem is much more intuitive. The folding handlebars are easy to open and close and very sturdy when open. The display is brighter and you can adjust it in the P settings. Speaking of the P settings, the manual that comes with the Dualtron describes all of the settings in detail. Overall the manual is far more detailed than the 5 page manual that came with the Ghost. It even has colour photos showing how to change the tires. I put Armor Dilloz in the tires today. It was nice to have NO trouble getting at the valves.
Speaking of Apollo, I noticed on their Facebook group that they’re begging their upset customers to contact them by email instead of posting their problems in the group. Apparently I wasn’t the only one who had problems with their (discontinued) hydraulic Ghost, and the Apollo City pre-order customers are learning that they won’t be getting their scooters any time soon. I actually feel sorry for Apollo customers. Apollo brought it on themselves by refusing to pay more than two people to provide customer service at the busiest time of year.
I find the removable battery is a godsend for me. I think Dualtron was thinking about apartment dwellers when they made the battery removable. I live in an apartment in an old building which doesn’t have enough electrical outlets. There’s no outlet in an area where I can fit the scooter. So it’s great to be able to pull the battery out and charge it separately. It has a handle and is very easy to remove and dis/reconnect it to the scooter. The battery is fairly heavy, about 18 lb, but no heavier than groceries I’ve carried on my ebike in a backpack. I don’t plan to buy a spare right now as it will cost $1000. I’ll just buy a fast charger for $150.
I notice Minimotors Canada has just raised the price of some of their Dualtrons including the City. I’m glad I saved $300. Re logistics of long distance shipments - my Ghost came from BC to Ontario with no problems, it took 4 days. It wasn’t that hard to re-box and return. Another good thing about Dualtrons is that they really pack their scooters well, tons of styrofoam. I had to cut the box on one side to get the scooter out because it was packed so tightly. I’ve kept the box flattened along with its styrofoam blocks in case I do need to return it.
So yeah I’m pretty happy with the Dualtron City so far. You get what you pay for. Of course I won’t know for sure until I’ve had a chance to ride it!
