I was really excited when Apollo announced preorders for their new Apollo City scooters - I’ve been puttering around on an older 350W scooter w/ 10 mi range after my Boosted Rev got stolen last summer. However, I’m looking to be able to get more distance on the scooter, at least 20 miles at 20 mph. I don’t live in a SF-style hilly area, but I do have a long, prolonged climb to get to/from home. Budget of around $1500.
I was planning on preordering the Apollo City Pro, as I love having dual motors for better grip / maneuverability. However, on paper at least, it seems the Apollo Ghost still outclasses the new City Pro. For $1599, the new Apollo City Pro offers more than the Apollo Ghost (preorder price), you get 1000 W of power, 17 mi tested range, and 31 mph top speed. Compared to the Apollo Ghost, for $1499 you get 1600W of power, 5 more miles of range, 38.4 mph top speed, and folding handlebars. The only benefit I see with the 2022 City Pro is the regen brakes and fancy self-healing tires (which one would think could be retrofitted onto other models?). Also City Pro
Am I missing something? It seems on paper the Ghost (released in Q1 2021) is still superior? Esp when it comes to portability, the folding handlebars means it can fit in a much tighter space if needed. Also with the spaces in the neck, one can possibly(?) slide a U-lock through it to secure it properly. Also the Apollo City has some proprietary handlebar which means I can’t use my preferred cell phone holder.
I’ve never ridden an Apollo scooter (or any scooter weighing over 50 lbs), so I would appreciate any buying advice. The only other one I’ve been looking at is the Kaabo Mantis V2. Also seems like Ghost is now offering hydraulic brakes - could this signify a 2022 design refresh for the Ghost?
Thanks in advance!
