I’m assuming you already made your choice, since it’s been about 3 months already.
I’d be curious if the Inokim Mini 2 can reach 15 mph. General rule of thumb for factors in speed:
Motor Wattage - which is basically your scooter’s horsepower so to speak
Tires size - which usually is a trade-off between torque and speed, smaller tires generally should give you a better hill climb but sacrifices top speed, in this case, both of these should be very similar
Air or solid - Air filled tires tend to have lower rolling resistance vs a solid tire, but the trade-off is maintenance/punctures
Coming from a Gotrax GXL, I can say the Air T15 was a pretty big disappointment. The design is stellar, compact, foldable, on paper and video it looks great, but when you really use it, it falls short. Speed is terrible, 12 mph vs 15 mph is like a paced jog vs a sprint, your commute is short enough, but you’ll be asking for more.
Trolley-function is awesome if you supplement your commute with the metro, but it is much larger when folded, Air T15 is the winner here in terms of compactness and folding handles. I feel like you could get one of those longboard sling backpacks and carry it on your back, though I haven’t tried it yet
Even though the Air T15 looks nice, the build quality of the stem is kind of toy-like, with too much plastic and rattles quite a bit, and has a beeping notification (whenever you do any action such as charging, folding, yes folding, and turning it on and off) that you cannot turn off through the Segway App. The reason for the lower rating of the Air T15 is because it could have been so much more.
Ride quality is also rough, due to the solid tires and no suspension, and ironically, even though they used a lot of plastic, the base is almost completely metal, they probably could have saved a lot of weight here, and made it into a scooter you could sling behind your back when carrying it…
If you like to tinker, the Air T15 is not for you, the battery is glued and sealed so good luck on DIY upgrading battery cells for more range. You will have to break open the case which I do not recommend unless you know what you’re doing.
Overall, I still used my money to support Segway in hopes they’ll make something better for the next gen that can check all the boxes, definitely has a lot of potential. Let me know if you ended up with the Inokim Mini, I’m curious how it is.
