Cant Decide!

Im having trouble deciding what to buy, so many manufacturers and models out there! 😅

Main use, commute to work over a main (100kmh) road(Tarmac) and town use with big curbs & Some trail riding.

Through my research ive found some features that seem important or caught my eye, such as:

40-50kmh+ Speed (for main road)

40/50km+ Range

Dual motors(with select for single)

Hydrolic/mechanical and possibly with Regen brakes

Folding handle bars(not essential but nice)

Cruise control

Good lights(not essential as bike head light can be fitted, really like the idea of the indicator lights)

Anti theft programe/NFC/Keys

10” tyres/prefer airless less chance of flats (I understand its hard to find them on scooters like im decribing)

Dual suspension (swing arm peeffered)

Electric horn

IP64 water rating(or what can handle getting caught in heavy irish rain)

The scooters ive come across so far are:

Please help in any way you can, like different scooters you may think could suit or easy work arounds on some features on some scooters, really appreciate your experience and time man!

You will want to look at IP rating which is an assigned rating for how much water the scoot can take.

I own the Apollo Explore among others and I can tell you it has an IP rating of IP54 water-resistance, certified from the factory. This means that the scooter should tolerate light rain with no problems but I don’t know about Irish downpours. The Explore has served me well as a mid-level scooter that I let friends ride who are not Scooter Heads and may not be able to handle beast scooters.
You mentioned trail riding; that would be the Wolf Warrior 11+ with off road tires. As a bonus the off road tires have a way cooler sound but be sure to shine a light through the deck to make sure it is sealed properly because one of mine was not, so Voro sent me a new deck.

My recommendations:
All around heavy duty - Wolf Warrior 11+
Light commuting - Apollo Explore
Long Distance - EMove Cruiser
Most reliable - Ninebot Max

DagwoodStreets kaboo and waterproof ?
i watched esg video about kaboo wolf king gt pro there was claimed water proofing or at least high level on ip.
then i watched ginger on wheels unpack and setup video for same scooter and that vloger showed that some parts hasnt well isolated from water.

17 minute is time when he speak about it.
how esg didnt see that ?
i almost decide buy this model but after this kaboo is no more option for me.

DagwoodStreets ninebot max is not reliable at all, the battery housing melted and a hot wire came out of mine. Of course your mileage may vary

I don’t know why people want to ride in the rain at all really. Anyone who has ridden a motorcycle knows the perils of wet roads (painted lines become a hazard) and that soaked feeling down to your bones. Water in your shoes etc. With an 8 or 10″ tire your just asking for trouble. Even most manufactures say their product is “Ip-whatever” they all will not warranty water damage. So why risk a $1500 to $5000 scooter, if you get caught in the rain one day, get an uber / bus or friend to take you home. As for a Ninebot - my first ride, the solid wheels are slippery in the wet, a thin layer of wet mud sends you surfing across it. Not a good idea to ride in wet conditions IMO.

PaulN its like when during pandemic i was needed drive to work(before vaccines was ready for mass production). better i choose use scooter than use public transport where are no distance and lot of unvaccinated ppl.
and yeah sometimes rain happening. also for me i dont have driving licence and mostly i use scooter to atend places. now i have in plan actual travel with scooter like 300 km to get places what is hard reachable by public transport. just drive and and enjoy solo ride.

I have a Kaabo Mantis 8 and a Apollo Ghost both scooters are very nice and we will see down the road with reliability… But,so far I find them both to be very fun and capable of both power and speed… You will not regret either one of these rides for $1000 (Kaabo) & $1500 (Apollo)…

I agree, you should not ride in the rain on any scooter but some people who live in rainy areas sometimes get caught out. For example, they ride their scooter to work or school when it’s sunny but it rains on them on the way home. I happen to live in a very dusty desert so IP rating may be a tiny bit beneficial.

a scooter is a means to commute. Faster than walking and rains is therefore part of commutes. Funny, i see motorcycle also as a means to commute, but well.

I see both motorcycles and scooters as “fun machines” that secondarily have the capability for commuting— though for years I commuted to work on a motorcycle, rain or shine. Cars are not as much fun as two wheels.

GRTXRider I’m not disagreeing with you. I understand getting caught in the rain on a day where you check a weather report and its badly wrong later in the day. However with low cost Chinese components, engineering and assembly, do not be surprised if your “splash proof” powered scooter becomes a 75 pound “push with your leg”, scooter after a rain ride fries your controller and other components. Only a few of the scooter manufactures will state their scooters can be driven in the rain. One of the funniest videos I have seen is a Kingsong’s scooter riding on the shoreline of an ocean through the salt water as a promotional video. Then “Wrong Way” did a unboxing and test video of the same model and it clearly stated in the manual not to use the scooter in rain or wet conditions. During the video it was discovered that there were huge gaps for the water to enter the electronics compartment and not exit. Totally up to you but i want my $2500.00+ to not become recycled metals.

I have commuted with a motorcycle (when i still had one) and it combined parking next to the door at Aldi/Lidl with fun and weaving through traffic.

North America is just … different and my local circumstances are as such, that i got caught in rain with the Gotrax thing in the rain a couple of times and my “waterproofing” was a bit of tape around some joints and a hole in the stem. So far, Scooter is paid off (vs. bus fair) and next summer (quite dry) should work out, too.
I still see that thing as filling the gap to just avoid spending money on car, insurance, petrol, parking etc.

Obviously my opinion is derived from my circumstances and not applicable to other climates/reasons to get a scooter etc. So, i am not saying my view is “THE” correct one, just reflects my current stance and it can be subject to change and i am still pondering if to upgrade scooter for more range … or go bicycle for longer range rare trips etc. So yeah, pls don´t take my take on this as the only correct one

That sounds great, just make sure you are ready in case you get a flat or have to open the deck to tighten some connectors etc.
Right now i have no confidence anymore in a long ride with my Phantom, my Kaabo yes, my Yume is too new but i want to ride it for a few 100 k before i feel i can go somewhere and not get stuck. At least it has tubeless tires, so i can easily plug a hole and fill it on the road. I just bought a cool little lightweight rechargeable air compressor i can throw in my backpack or the tote bag that came with the scooter and go.
I’m not sure if you saw that guy who posted on here a one or two months ago, doing a north to south America trip on his kaabo Wolf. He is travelling rain or shine. He pulls a little trailer with solar panels and his gear, I wonder how he is doing? He is very brave. I’ll try to find his post and reply so it goes back to the top of the forum page.

The Kaabo Wolf Warriors are NOT waterproof. If you shine a flashlight on one side of the deck the light comes out the other so it’s guaranteed dust and water can easily get to the battery.

Totally agree with your comment. When you open up the decks and look inside, there are lots of places for water to seep in.
When i opened up my new Yume i found 3 or 4 places where water would surely come in. wire entrances mostly and the main seal is like you say above you can see spaces where light will pass through.

This => : “IP Rating: IP 54 for the whole scooter” (cut + paste from YUME website) is absolute BS.

my scooter manuals state to not ride the scooters in rain or puddles as well. Video’s are very misleading. Like I previously mentioned watching a guy ride a KINGSONG scooter through the water on an ocean shore back and forth as advertising.

PaulN tighten what ? Dont want be rude but why i need after buyed new Scooter and after service put together and check brakes and screws tighten something?
Example im Now running my ultron T10 last full check was 1200 km ago. All works good. And ultron t10 isnt hi end Scooter.
Im thinking choose tubeless setup for start.
If nami has so good amortosation then even on our Bad roads its not gonna be uncomfy.
