PaulN I don’t do Facebook either, but I created an account there recently for the sole purpose of finding groups about scooters and micromobility. On the Apollo group I’ve already received some excellent tips from other riders who have the same model of scooter as mine (Apollo Ghost). For instance, one guy suggested I use trimmed down bicycle tire liners to prevent flats.
I ordered the hydraulic brake version of the Ghost, so it was on pre-order. They just shipped it last week but I won’t get it until Friday because of the Easter holiday. Re the weather, I have a funny feeling I might be more concerned about the weather being too hot than too cold. I’ve got a full motorcycle helmet, leather moto gloves, and motorcycle jacket and pants with CE pads. The jacket has a removable winter liner and the pants are supposed to be light enough to go over jeans. They both have vents but I’m not sure how effective they will be at non motorcycle speeds. Oh well, if those things get too hot I will have to buy the standalone pads and wrist guards.
I’m not sure when I will be able to join group rides, since I’ve never ridden a scooter before. It will take some time before I feel comfortable and skilled enough to join other riders. My first few rides will be practicing in a local church parking lot.
