Need help finding the right scooter for me.

Hello im new to the scooter seen. Im into eskate i just finished my first DIY board and have a trampa board. i was wondering are there scooters out there that are future proof? for example with my trampa and diy board, if my ESC, motors, battery, whatever goes up in it I can replace it with the same part or if that part is no longer available i can use a different part. This is possible because the boards use a ESC called a VESC which can be reprogramed depending on what motors and battery you are using. so basically it is future proof. what scares me about electric scooters is what happens if a part on you scooter brakes or your battery dies off after a view years of use? lets say the manufacture is not around anymore or does not support that product anymore. so you cant just swap out parts willy nilly because you can not reprogram you esc. like you can with a vesc. are any the manufactures using universal parts? is there any industry standards or are all there electronic proprietary? can anyone share there insight into these concerns or suggest a scooter that may not have these issues?

I think a lot of brands are branding their own parts so that all the parts on the scooter come from them, but a lot of higher-end scooters can have parts swapped out with aftermarket parts, such as hydraulic brakes. As far as I know, Batteries are normally pretty universal as long as you get the right specs. I guess you could replace most of the parts with parts from different sources, but there’d be no guarantee they’d work together…

JacobHorton yea thats really lame I have someone i could get a kaboo wolf king for cheap from thats fairly new but i think buying a trampa or diy electric skateboard is a better investment because you can get replacement part from so many sources.

Apollo did a couple of short production runs on scooters that used VESC (Apollo Pro Ludicrous and Apollo Ultra Ludicrous). You might check on the soon to be released 60V Apollo Phantom.

As far as modular hackable scooters go, that’s a tough one. I agree with Jacob that we’re seeing more scooter-specific parts these days which has pluses and minuses. The plus being that they are designing the part to do exactly what they want it to, and they can tweak it and make it better in response to customer feedback. The downside is there will be less interchangeability between brands. Ultimately I think the purpose-built stuff is going to end up being really good.

But, I’m also curious to hear if anyone finds a production scooter running VESC.

Most scooters as far as i can see work similar to rc cars all parts are replaceable and u can kinda mix and match company’s as long as u have basic knowledge on connections and amps watts that u have to keep an eye put for.. I purchased 2 segway es4 which were broken one for 50bucks and the other for free.. i fixed both with ebay parts and they run very good now.. my inokim ox i also bought used with a motor issue the dealer didnt want to fix it they just said replace motor but that was expensive so i opened the motor and serviced it myself..it was just rusted cleaned it all out sealed with grease and it works perfect with some youtube vid help.. i would say buy a good quality name brand scooter with sopport or buy one that has compatible parts with other brands..
