Big guy and a hill -- Emove Cruiser 2021? Or more power?

Hi. First time posting. Love ESG. I’m thinking about buying a scooter, primarily as a commuter ride. I weigh about 270 pounds, I’m 5’11”.

From all the reviews I’ve read, the Emove Cruiser 2021 seems like my best all around option. My only concern is this: I don’t want something that is going to feel sluggish – either on flat land or, importantly, up the hills I will need to ride on daily.

This is the primary incline I’m concerned about. It’s about half a mile where I’d be headed up hill on my return commute. It’s not a crazy grade, but it’s not nothing considering the distance. It’s critical to me I be able to get up this hill without feeling like a struggle.

Interested in hearing from big riders – or the experts here – about how the newest Emove Cruiser does on these sort of hills. I’m also open to learning about more powerful options if any big guys felt the Cruiser just didn’t cut it for them. Thanks!

thehutch I have just started using the Emove Cruiser S and weighing about 96kgs I have found on 1st setting it still shoots me up a steep incline at 11mph compared to 500W old scooter that I used to push with one foot. I have not been brave enough to use the 3rd speed yet but I noticed that on cruise control and changing to 2nd it gives it a hell of a kick in speed. Like putting the foot down.

128′ over 3168′ is only a 4.4% grade.
My 1600w ghost would fly up that!
I have some 17% grades around me and it can hold it’s own on those with me at 250.
I don’t know the gearing or drive ratio on the Emove.

Yeah, looks pretty flat (I checked out streetview). You should be good to go. The cruiser would get the job done, but as Manac recommended, the Ghost would take you just about any speed you want to go up a 4% hill.

DrScootLittle Thanks, Paul. I’ve indeed been leaning toward dual motors and have been trying to decide between the Ghost, the Phantom V2, the Vsett 10+ and the Mantis. Leaning toward either Phantom or Vsett 10+. My brain tells me the Phantom is the better all around scooter – and the safer one. But my heart is telling me the Vsett will be a lot more fun and maybe keep me from getting upgradeitis too soon.

thehutch Get the fastest scooter with the most range you can afford. I just got the cruiser put 160 miles on it and I’m ready for an upgrade. It’s a great scooter but you get used to it quickly.

I ordered the 60v Phantom. Once Apollo put up the 60v it was easier to pick that over the Vsett. Should be arriving by next Monday. Hopefully doesn’t snow here before then!

In any case if you weight 270pounds you are overweight. That means your body movement is more restrictive on scooter! Bending knees slightly, keeping balance straight and being very quick in an accidental situations is NOT in your favour. So you should stay with sluggish scooter because scooters arent bicycles, they are somewhat dangerous. Drive safe and slightly slow is the way rather than speed and hope for luck. I wish ya safe driving.

BLAZN420 yup. I went with Apollo Phantom 60v and already game for faster. It gets me up the hill I mentioned here at about 28 mph and can handle any hill near me (and there are some very steep ones). Thankfully Apollo is releasing a v3 upgrade kit this summer that’s supposed to turn my Phantom into a ludicrous model. New controller is supposed to be as smooth as sine wave. If you do upgrade, can’t recommend Apollo enough.

BLAZN420 You are absolutely correct! When I first got my Wolf King GT, I was worried that I bought too much scooter. After riding everyday for the past 2 month, typically 30-40 miles per day at speeds in excess of 45 mph, I am ready for more range.

thehutch What benefits will the Ludo upgrade give you? I have noticed the hub motors are stamped with two different wattages and voltages on them, so i had always assumed a 60 volt Battery would change things. The top speed now is 60 to 65 kph give or take wind and a hill. Most of the time that is fine really except there are some roads and situations where 70 or 80 kph would occasionally come in handy for bursts. If the conversion does not take top speed to at least 80 kph, IMO it’s not worth it. I would probably just add a Dualtron, Nanrobot, or a Wolf Warrior to my collection instead for those days I want some more speed.

PaulN So they posted two videos that talk about v3. I’m a little unclear on whether it will really turn the 60v into a full Ludo or if it’s like Ludo Lite. I do wonder how much a controller could do for you without a motor upgrade. I hadn’t noticed the motors were stamped with two wattages. Maybe the new motor would let you access peak wattage?

It does have some other big benefits, namely the claim that the throttle will be smooth like sine wave. It’s also supposed to introduce access via phone app that includes a lock that will freeze the wheels in place.

PaulN Oh, I see. Right. So I guess if you have a 52 volt battery you won’t get the full experience. I’m glad I went with the 60 volt.

thehutch I guess we will see. Be interesting to see if yours will go faster than 40 mph. Hopefully you will get yours as promised, mine was delayed several times last year until it finally was shipped.

PaulN Got mine back in January, actually. I get it up to about 40 mph or so on flat ground, as measured by GPS. They say top speed (at least with current v2 controller) is 43. I’m sure someone a bit lighter would hit that and maybe more.

thehutch I believe the speed has to do with the engineering of the scooter electronics itself. The number of magnets, the controller, the optimum speed of the motor where you get the the most HP without overheating the motor or its top rated rpms. Probably stability after 40mph requires a damper and a stiffer stem to avoid speed wobble.. My 60V Mantis 10 pro very noticeably, is a much faster accelerating scooter, then my Phantom. I have the P settings dialed up equally on both. The Mantis reaches top speed very quickly and it has the power to go faster but, it’s obviously electronically limited to just under 40mph. I suspect your V2 has the same “disability”, a limited top speed. I will probably sell one or the other scooters eventually and get one of the scooters I mentioned above to suit my “need for speed”. 🙂

Interesting comparison. That Mantis Pro is very fast off the line.

Maybe the v3 kit will put top speed up toward 50? The Ludo prototype ESG tested topped out at 48 mph, did 0-15 in 2.1 seconds and hill climb in 7.1 seconds (at 19.2 mph). Fingers crossed that my 60v will match that performance with the upgrade.

That acceleration is in the ballpark with the likes of Burn-E, Wolf King GT, Dualtron Thunder II and your Mantis Pro.

shooflyshoo I’m looking at getting Wolf King GT myself. I’m seeing different YouTubers calling it the GT or GT Pro is there a difference? Someone offered to sell me a used Dualtron Storm with over 4K miles is that a lot for a Dualtron?

BLAZN420 they are the same thing. There is something called a Wolf Warrior GT which is different but the Wolf King GT and the Wolf King GT pro are the same beast.
