12 year old boy …. What scooter do I buy

Help ! Have a very active 12 year old boy who would love an electric scooter ….. I will have to tell him 100 times not to do jumps hence it needs to be “solid” …. Would appreciate your advise

First response… if he’s very active, he doesn’t need the scooter to be electric 🙂… I would probably check out the Ninebot Max… It’s very well known for being a tank, and being extremely durable/reliable.
I suppose it would really depend on things like budget and how much you want to limit speed/power…

I would also highly encourage you to look into local laws… many states have age requirements, as well as speed and wattage limits for electric scooters on public roads.

One very key thing is going to be wearing a helmet. If he’s not good about wearing helmets, then don’t do it. There are definitely some scooters out there which are made for kids. The only scooters we have tested are all designed for adults, so it’s hard to make a strong recommendation for a 12 year old. Weight would be a big consideration. Something like the Segway Ninebot E22 might be good though. No flat tires, top speed of 13 mph is very bicycle-like, and the price is rock-bottom right now (see link below). This is definitely a scooter which doesn’t want to be jumped off of curbs 100 times though. The Ninebot Max is better for that, but it’s too heavy and probably too fast for a 12 year old.
