How are you locking your scooter?

Folks - I’ve only ridden my scooter around town and have yet to actually use it for transportation. That would be ride it to the store/friends house/lunch place etc., lock it up, go in and do something and then come back out, unlock it and go back home. Basically what I bought it for in the first place. I know y’all have figured out ways to secure your scooter while it’s out of your sight. So please share what you know. I’ve got a Ninebot Max. Thank to all. The forum is outstanding.

SantaCruz I prefer to always keep the scoot nearby – which means bringing in with me, when possible. With smaller scooters like the Max, this works well for most places. For coffee shop, fold and slide under seat/table, for grocery store, throw in shopping cart, etc.

When you can’t bring it in, these two tips are vital:

Lock in visible location
Only use a legit U-lock (Kryptonite NY lock, or equivalent)
Lock to secure, immovable object (bike rack, metal railing etc)

I live in an area where crime is low, at least scooter theft is rare. And probably because scooters are rare, no one wanders around for hours seeking scooters. lol I’ve been locking up my scooters for a year, no problem, with a U Lock. Was at a hospital for 6 hours, no problem, lately. I suppose the bike rack being in public, next to a rest area and the main entrance, nobody goes there.

DonL With a good lock, the main thing I worry about is vandalism which is why bring in with me is always top of mind.

justin Yes vandalism. I also worried about that. I must be in a pretty good area because none of that has happened. So far. And I rarely leave it out for long. If there are kids out of high school I don’t park near them. Etc. Unless they’re well-behaved… 😁

Bike theft is a thing. I take scooter shopping with me (inside) and only once it took some talking to be allowed in. Obviously only pushing and no riding, as if that were something i´d do..

So, i have not yet had the chance to “see what happens”, i do not have a lock even, it comes with me and if the business decides to not allow me in, away i go.

I always go somewhere I can keep my eye on my scooter and stay near it. I tend not to carry a lock with me, and if i do i’d only be leaving it for a short time. I have two scooters, Weped which I keep up in my apartment and a Hero X8 which I lock down stairs in my storage cage with an alam lock on the scooter and locks on the cage door.

In a crowded area, look for a stable bike rack. Avoid leaving your electric scooter parked in a remote location where thieves may easily pick the lock on it or get around it. I figure all locks just keep honest people honest. A determined thief can and will get your scooter.

I use this cheaper folding lock like this from amazon

and lock it like this

or around the stems if we have both out at once.

Our scooters are heavy and chunky, so no one’s getting them unless they are pretty determined.

I never do here, unless it’s right outside the busy place where a am sitting (coffee shop, etc).
Bike/scooter theft is crazy here. They all use cordless electric angle grinders. No lock will stop them, and they’re chopped and gone in under 60 seconds.

That being said, they go for bikes 95% if the time, and they would have a hard time getting away quickly with my 110lb NAMI without me catching them and physically thanking them with a blunt object.

Just kidding. When I lived in LA I watched 3 guys grab a locked sport bike and heave it into the back of a van.

I recommend putting an air tag or some other tracking device on your scooter as well. I have a Samsung smart tag on my uno online Apollo Ghost
