To be honest, I think the best place to start is by getting your hands on a working scooter and modding it. You’ll learn a lot about what you like and don’t like about other designs, and will also have the stock ride experience to compare it with.
When you say mid-mounted style motor, do you mean using belts or chains to drive the wheels rather than use a hub-motor like the vast majority of scooters?
