Hi, I hope you’re well. I have never used an electric scooter, but due to changing work circumstances, am in the market to purchase one as soon as possible.
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area of California, USA. I’d like to purchase an electric scooter so I can commute 2 miles from my house to the starting train station, keep the scooter with me on the train, and then commute .5 mile from the destination train station to my work office. That’s a total of 5 miles of commute per day. On some days, I will probably run errands for up to 5 miles in addition to my commute.
Reliability and durability are important to me - I want the lowest chances of something going wrong that could affect the commute due lack of flexibility in train schedules and needing to be at work on time. The least amount of ongoing maintenance is also of importance.
The scooter should be lightweight, preferably under 45 pounds, but ideally 30 to 40 pounds.
I also want a smooth ride and trustworthy brakes. I am not amazing at balancing on bicycles, and cannot ice skate or roller skate or skateboard whatsoever.
My budget is US$1,000, but I can push it by a couple hundred more dollars, if needed.
After checking out dozens of YouTube videos, handfuls of websites, and over 50 online discussion threads, I’m highly considering the Segway Ninebot KickScooter Max (G30P), Segway Ninebot KickScooter Max (G30LP), and Apollo City.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Take care.
