How heavy for going in and out if vehicle?

What scooter would you buy if:

You had to put it in and out if your vehicle every time you use it
There are some moderate hills where you are riding
You weigh 200 pounds with your pack on

I was looking at something like a Ghost, but 65 pounds is not light and seems like a real annoyance to get in and out if a vehicle But is it worth it because I’ll regret something with less power?

You’ll have to sacrifice some power for portability, but I’d look at these (good weight to hill performance):

EMOVE Touring
Apollo City
UScooters Booster GT
Ninebot Max (might be on the slower side for hill performance – people to mod these to juice up power, if that’s your thing though)
Inmotion L9 (somewhat large folded dimensions, though)
Unagi E500 (a little lean on range)

My advice is to hop on the comparison DB and search based off tested specs to help narrow down choices, then dive into scooters that look like winners

I’m riding these 2 scooters a Ninebot Max G30LP and a Speedway Leger, they both go in the trunk of my sedan pretty easy. The Speedway has enough power to propel me at 185LBS to 30 MPH, the Ninebot does a decent 18MPH. They have both been very reliable.

How well does it move you up hills?

Specs say 1360 Max, for a small scooter that fits in a trunk of my car, it’s plenty powerful, I have not come across a hill on my normal trails, or in the city it could not climb. I did a 22 mile trip the other day no problem. I like it.

I have a Weped FS and commonly take it in my car - Folded its no more than 1 meter long but it is about 60kgs - Its heavy but if standing and lifting correctly I have no issues getting it in or out of my car (Ford Mondeo wagon). I understand this weight isnt idea to lift for many, but I think ‘how heavy going in and out of car’ is up to the person

I’ve just bought a Hero X8, which I think will be much easier to cart around if needed

I would not get the Apollo Ghost because my buddy’s stem broke after 400 miles and it is unrepairable. If the portability issue is mainly in and out of the car and not carrying up and down steps you’d be surprised how heavy of a scooter you can maneuver into the back of a car simply by using the correct technique, both ESG and Ginger On Wheels have videos showing how to do it without straining yourself.

I wouldn’t sacrifice power. I would make a fold up ramp to load and unload it into my trunk.

Depending on how high your trunk is from the ground you can probably lift the rear wheel first, slide forward and lift the scooter from the front without a ramp. Reason for rear wheel first is the front wheel wheel will squirrel around. I chose to incorporate a tow hitch cargo basket that simplifies everything, I regularly travel with two Wolf Warriors or one WW and another smaller scoot.

DagwoodStreets . I agree Dagwood. I load my King in my subaru the way you describe. But when I load it in to the back of my truck I use a ramp that I made because I’m to short and the tailgate is to high. I plan on getting Model 3 Tesla soon. I think I will make some sort of padding protection for the lip of the truck because it’s not as flat as a hatch back.

I concur, the weight is less a problem than actual fit and how you lift. So, incidentally, lighter scooter may not may not also possess a smaller footprint. For apartments, 20kg seems like a good compromise, if you want easy handling without having basically no range. If 1kg gets you double the range, worth it.
