Nutt or Zoom Hydraulic Brakes?

Host of the Electric Scooter Podcast here trying to find out if there is any general preference between Nutt and Zoom brakes; is either one better than the other?

Used both, but on totally different scooters, and really I dont think there is much difference at all.

I had the Zoom on a chinese 60v scooter and they did the job for what they where. the rear has a slight leak which i fixed.

I have the Nutt currently on my Weped FS - While the brakes arent bad, I had to adjust them a few times due to rubbing, BUT, the FS or anything with this sort of power really need Magura MT standard without a doubt.

All in all, both zoom and nutt do the job and compared to Magura, both are well priced for what they do IMO

Timotis Ahh, so sounds like Magura is the way to go if possible. I had heard Nutt and Zoom are comparable. Thanks for the info/opinion!

Hi Dagwood!
Nutt seems to have a slight edge. I’ve had one Zoom master cylinder fail, so the lever would slowly keep going, after the brakes were applied. Bled it literally 6 times, and had the same result. Installed a replacement master cyl and it was instantly fixed.

Nutt also has the advantage of a lower profile master cylinder, which allows the throttle to be set closer to the brakes if you want to. This is my favorite difference between the two brands.

See I wonder how the ZOOM would fair on a Weped FS/Rion? Both use Nutt and Maugra, and really I think my Weped should have Maugra from factory, but dont. Rion does.

Better brakes should be better on any model, right? In the automotive and motorcycle world Brembo are often available as an upgrade across models.

What brakes are a great Magura alternative? It seems that Magura products are quite scarce on the market or really take a long time to get. Are there other double piston options available on the market? I would like to change on the brakes on my Dualtron X2 and possibly my Wolf Warrior 11.

I’m really curious about this too. Maguras are scarce enough that companies who would like to use them as original equipment are having to use lower spec brakes because they’re all that’s available.

I’m super curious about these brakes that the eSC S1-X scooter use. They’re made by the company “Braking” (which is a terrible name for a brake company!)

These are DOT brake fluid based brakes and not mineral oil brakes. So they can handle much higher temperatures. I’ve found the catalog that shows these brakes, but have not found a specific part number or a way to order them.
