Absolutely! Consider how much social media has affected things like the U.S. election and social justice movements. If consumers demand their PEV have specific standards (safety standards mostly) and also urge their regions/cities to implement infrastructure changes that encourage PEV use, it can become mainstream. Other countries/cities that have been more bike-friendly are having an easier time adjusting and providing safe routes for PEV riders.
Even ESG and our comprehensive reviews have given some manufacturers insight into what issues there have been with production (wobbly stems, etc.), and often they try to remedy the issues.
I think another way to drive industry standards is by being an advocate of PEV use, and doing so in a safe way (wearing helmets, abiding by current laws, etc.). When riders are getting seriously hurt because they’re zipping between cars and knocking into pedestrians, the entire community suffers.
