I can’t find a local forum but I’m a newish rider based in Australia and had my first proper crash a week ago.
I was riding the normal last few legs into work after parking outside the city, didn’t even make it to the end of the first street before I was on the ground.
I was accelerating and probably only doing around 25km when I think I jack knifed or overcorrected because suddenly I was face first with the road in a second.
My helmet wasn’t a full face helmet (skater style with a lip) but it cracked on impact and I also bruised my face and my chin needed a few stitches.
My jacket was just a non protective day wear type and the shoulder ripped. Interesting no injuries on that shoulder.
I was wearing cold weather gloves with some padding but both hands lost some skin and one hand got multiple fractures. Will be in a cast for atleast a month.
My knee suffered a deep gash to the bone that needed surgery. I’m still in a leg brace from that.
My jaw feels like it’s out of alignment can’t chew or open proper but no fractures.
I guess the helmet saved me from a more significant head trauma but my take away lesson is I need a full face helmet even though I was doing short trip and lower speeds.
Lower speeds can still cause bad injuries in a second.
