For weight limit, it really depends.
For some scooters, the weight capacity seems very much determined by motor power. Seems they set it as a guideline for getting decent performance.
On other scooters, I wonder if it’s related to safety/structure issue. Some ship with tires that are only rated up to 50 or 60 kg which ends up being 220 / 265 lb total. Having a blowout / structural failure because you exceeded the weight capacity could be bad.
People seem to exceed the weight limit on the Ninebot Max all the time, so if you’re right at the limit it might not be an issue.
The Explore is worth it, if you need the extra range. I through these scooters into our comparison tool and set it to show our actual tested performance data, so you can get a sense of what you get for escalating price. Note: data is for a 165 lb rider, so performance will be less @ 220 lb, but testing is consistent, so relative performance will remain the same.
