Here’s a perspective, by the numbers.
Pasted below is our real-world performance data for the Mantis and Explore:
Similar range, but the Mantis is significantly faster with better acceleration, hill climbing, etc.
Some dimensional data:
Explore folds more compactly b/c folding handlebars and has a bit bigger deck, as well as adjustable handlebars. Both have pneumatic 10 inch tires.
Similar feature set in that both have dual spring suspension and disc dual cable-operated disc brakes. The Explore has an IP54 water-resistance rating whereas the Mantis has no water-resistance rating and decent size gaps in the deck.
Overall, here’s how I view the two scooters:
- Explore: super well-rounded, comfortable, practical commuter. Very solid performance, but nothing terrifying and relative easy to ride.
- Mantis (base): more exciting, performance-oriented scooter that is super fun to ride and potentially a bit much for someone to handle unless you’re up to the excitement. Slightly less practical than the Explore, but a superb balance if you want excellent performance per dollar.
If the Mantis scooters caught you’re eye, then as @goldesnoopy suggested, there are some other options available that are slightly less (or more) powerful and less/more expensive.
We recently did a really nice comparison of the Kaabo Mantis lineup that might be helpful if you go that route.
