As I wait patiently for my first scooter Phantom to arrive in July, I’m having a difficult time stablishing what kind of helmet to buy and use in a tropical climate like Puerto Rico. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Ramin The Phantom hits speeds around 40mph so I def think you should rock a legit helmet for safety. I’m not exactly sure which is best for warmer conditions but I hope these two articles help. One article portrays motorcycle style helmets and other is motocross.

Below 20 mph, standard bike helmet is acceptable. All will provide the same level of safety as long as they are CPSC certified.

Above 20 mph, DOT-approved (or SNELL equivalent) motorcycle helmet is recommended.

Full face is best, but understandable to skip on if you’re in super hot weather. That said, a lot of faces have been save from full-faced helmets.

The Giro Bexley MIPS looks sweet, but it is no safer than any other CPSC bike helmet.

Thanks for the recommendations. I see the benefits of the moto style but the heat may be an issue. Was also looking at Giro Bexley MIPS since dont think I be hitting 40mph anytime soon.

justin The ESG database shows 3 stars which could be because of NTA 8776 ebike certification but i see your point on lack of protection to face and jaws.

I think as soon as you get the scooter and do 30 miles an hour, you’ll love it, then you’ll do 35 miles………then you’ll want to do 39 and 40…….

So I think a full faced helmet is a must for any scooter that can do higher speeds, whether the rider ‘plans’ to do it or not..

Maybe look at downhill mountain bike helmets - some of these are full face, lighter and open air, so better for Warner weather - like this

Thanks man! I was looking at some of the downhill convertibles like Bell Super DH MIPS; BELL Super Air R MIPS or Giro Switchblade MIPS. I figured this way I can modify the helmet based on the speed.
