Shipping
Ordered my Yume Y11 last week and it showed up at my front door yesterday despite a minor delay on FedEx’s part. The packaging is simple but rather effective. Looks like Yume has a warehouse in California and since I’m ordering from Ontario, one week shipping time is not bad at all. Free shipping doesn’t apply though if you order outside of US. They included a free air pump, tool kit, a scooter bag, 2 extra brake pads and some extra screws which looks like they are for the steering damper which the scooter doesn’t come with one.
Static review
Now onto the scooter itself. I received the latest version Y11 which comes a seat and upgraded locking system (remote lock instead of key ignition). Once put together the scooter is rather solid, no wobble / creaking whatsoever. The build quality is good, mine did not have any loose screw but I would still recommend to go through every bolt & nut (regardless of brand). I’m not a fan of the headlights, they look kinda flimsy and imo are not bright enough for night ride and the under deck LEDs reminds me of Xmas tree… you’d have to get the X11 if you want put on a light show. The horn is rather unpleasant and is loud af, I would not use it on pedestrians - might cause a heart attack. The Y11 come with Zoom hydraulic brakes and a color display which at this price range I think it’s fair. Overall quite impress with the product and it has exceeded my expectations.
On the road (or off the road).
This is a powerful scooter, the 2×3000w motors are no joke. Even with 11′ off road tires I can easily get up to its stated top speed (I weigh 80kgs). The trigger throttle is very sensitive compare to my X10 Ltd’s thumb throttle, when I start in M3+AWD it would spin the tires which could take some getting use to. At higher speed the scooter is well balanced and very stable, but it doesn’t have a good turning radius so be wary of the sharp turns. I’ve ridden it on gravel and grass and with those off-road tires and suspension it just glide though with no problem. I haven’t spent enough time with it yet to test the range but with an out-of-the-box full charge I was able to do all kinds of spirited riding today and the battery still has 50% remaining. I believe the stated range of 50 miles should me accurate.
Verdict
At this price I think the scooter is really good out of the box. Let’s see how it does in the long run. Yume does sell spare parts on their website so if you can handle basic maintenance / repair you should be fine. Spending more $$ on a product does not guarantee hassle free ownership. I’d rather give my cash to a company that doesn’t spend it all on marketing and hype building.
