How loud are e-scooters, and which ones are the quiet ones? The level of noise they make is important to those of us who live in quiet communities. Unfortunately, I cannot find comparisons of the level of loudness they make, and all the demo videos mask the noise with music. My friend was horrified when one video of a repair reportedly showed the fixed scooter on a block, wheels in the air, giving off a very loud sound, unacceptable in our neighborhood. Do some scooters come with chains, and if so, are they noisier than those with the motor in the wheel?

Let me know if there are any specific scooters you’d like noise measurements on. We have roughly 60 scooters here, and a decibel meter!

All electric scooters make an electric almost humming sound when operating. They tend to get louder when going faster.

We haven’t ever tested noise levels, but I’d that none are very loud – definitely much quieter than a car or any other gas-operated vehicle.

Generally smaller less powerful scooters are quieter than larger dual-motor ones, but no scooter is particularly loud.

A handful of scooters are chain-driven but most have hub motors. I suspect the chain-driven ones are louder because of that mechanism, but we’ve never tested one.
